In an unprecedented joint event, the International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030, UNESCO, and the Varkey Foundation, in collaboration with Dubai Cares, will launch the highlights of the upcoming first Global Report on Teachers and announce the laureate of the Global Teacher Prize 2023.
The event will be held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, Room I, on 8 November 2023, 18:30-20:00 (CET).
The initial segment will introduce new research specifically addressing teacher shortages, offering a preview of the full report planned for release in early 2024. This comprehensive report will showcase in-depth data and perspectives on the global challenges faced by teachers, along with actionable recommendations to enhance teacher recruitment and retention. The presentation will be followed by a ministerial panel addressing some of the critical issues affecting teacher shortages.
In the second part, the Varkey Foundation in partnership with UNESCO and Dubai Cares will present the Global Teacher Prize 2023 honouring exceptional educators. Established to commend an extraordinary teacher who has made a significant impact on the profession, the Prize serves to highlight the crucial role teachers play in society. The event will showcase the winner of the prestigious USD 1 million prize, alongside the other nine finalists chosen from a pool of over 8,000 nominations and applications spanning 121 countries.
